An elaborate Dresden porcelain covered centerpiece bowl featuring hand-painted romantic pastoral scenes of figures in 18th-century dress within landscape settings, interspersed with delicate floral sprays (Deutsche Blumen). The body and lid incorporate relief-moulded basketweave bands in the Dulong or Alt-Ozier style.

The domed cover is crowned by a sculptural finial depicting two young children surrounded by moulded bunches of grapes and leaves, finished with gilt rim details.

Germany, Dresden, 19th century.

During the 19th century, porcelain decorating studios in Dresden produced elaborate ornamental tableware inspired by 18th-century Meissen and Sèvres models. Decorators applied finely detailed enamel paintings, including Watteau-style pastoral scenes, to moulded porcelain vessels and embellished their covers with three-dimensional figural finials.

This piece demonstrates the refinement of 19th-century Dresden porcelain craftsmanship, combining relief-moulded textures, multi-figure landscape painting and sculpted children with fruit.
