Fabergé Silver Guilloche Enamel Fish Set In Original Leather Case

Service for cutting cabinet fish (ceremonial shovel and fork) in silver (or silver metal) entirely gilded with fine gold (vermeil). The tapered handles feature sumptuous purplish pink/lilac guilloche enamel decoration, framed with delicate threads of pearls and foliage. The bases of the handles are punctuated with ivory-colored molded rings. The shovel and fork are richly engraved with foliage, leafy scrolls and asymmetrical rocaille motifs. In its original black velvet and silk box.

This sumptuous fish cutting kit is a work of cabinet art characteristic of the prestigious productions of the House of Fabergé. Bearing the title mark 84 and the initials HW, it is a direct creation of Henrik Wigström (1862-1923), one of the most famous and talented chief master goldsmiths of the firm, active in Saint Petersburg where he succeeded Michael Perchin in 1903.
Wigström established himself as the absolute master of Louis XVI and Neo-Classical styles applied to objects of virtue. Here we find his immense know-how through the technique of translucent enamel on a guilloche background of horizontal waves. The purplish pink (or lilac) color, particularly difficult to stabilize during firing on gold or vermeil, was one of the favorite shades of the Russian imperial family and European aristocratic clientele. The finesse of the rocaille engravings on the vermeil tops completes this set of remarkable rarity, preserved in its original case.
