The Talashkino Art Center, founded by Princess Maria Tenisheva at the turn of the 20th century, was a major focus of the revival of Russian applied arts. Combining traditional folk art with Art Nouveau, the Talashkino workshops (notably under the direction of Sergueï Malioutine) produced remarkable objects and pieces of furniture in carved wood, characterized by medieval-inspired motifs, massive shapes and great graphic expressiveness.
Our object will fit perfectly into the rediscovery of pieces of Russian artistic craftsmanship from the beginning of the 20th century, particularly sought after for the quality of execution of their symbolist sculpted frames and the historical importance of Princess Tenisheva’s workshops.
